Game Night Has Arrived
A look at the current LCG Game Night kits for Warhammer: Invasion

Source : Fantasy Flight Games

Organized play for all of our LCGs continues to grow all over the world. We are proud that our global community has done so well at introducing new players to the games and strengthening their local organized play communities to build a strong and enthusiastic meta game. The basis of this community is the organized play events. These bring players from a wide range of backgrounds to a localized, regularly scheduled, and dynamic playing environment. The goal of these Game Nights, as they are called, is to build up local A Game of Thrones, Call of Cthulhu, and Warhammer: Invasion communities.

For those who have never been to a Game Night, here is a summary of what you can expect. The organizer will set a certain time and day of the week for their Game Night. It is important to keep in mind that all Players who show up for the first night will be put onto the players list and be expected to play for the duration of the Game Night season. On the first night you’ll receive your achievement card to track your progress. Although there are official tournament rules for all of our LCGs, it comes down to the local player community and the organizer to determine the limitations and ground rules of a Game Night. The season generally lasts 6 weeks, at the end of which the winner is determined and the prizes from the Game Night kits are given out.

Here is an example of what you might encounter in a more casual to lightly-competitive play group:

* Game Night leagues are usually setup to run for six weeks, meeting on the same day, at the same time every week, for example, Thursdays at 7:00 pm.
* The card pools are usually limited to cards that are accessible to all players. This allows for a heavy emphasis on deck building rather than having the best cards.
* At each Game Night, everyone pairs up and plays three games, preferably against players they haven't already challenged that week. Part of the point of a league is getting to know other players, so make sure you get a chance to play everyone else at some point. Be sure to keep track of your achievements, wins, and losses.
* After six weeks, the prizes are distributed and hopefully players start signing up for the next league!

Game Night is a great way to try out a lot of different ways of playing, from varying deck builds to different tournament formats. The important thing is to have fun and keep coming back each week for new and exciting adventures.

Achievements in our Game Nights are a fun and engaging way to involve players of all levels of experience, while also giving players a reason to vary their gaming experience. We encourage players to earn as many achievements as they can over the course of their Game Night sessions. The way achievements work is simple: each achievement is a task that you can accomplish while playing a game at a Game Night. Some of the achievements are very easy and can be accomplished by most players in the first game of their first session - these achievements are ideal for new players. Some of the achievements are very difficult and will take a lot of skill to accomplish, but they will be immensely satisfying for those players that manage to pull them off. Achievements can only be earned during games played at your local Game Nights. Each achievement is worth a certain number of points: 1, 3, or 10. If your Game Night group is competitive, you can use their accumulated achievement scores as well as their record of wins and losses to rank them. If you are more casual, we encourage you to try for lots of different achievements, or to earn a new achievement at every Game Night.

We are working to bring the global play community closer together, so feedback on your organized play is key. What decks are winning? Are the prizes worthwhile? How challenging are the achievements? We are building a basis to provide better organized play support and experience in the future. Ultimately the strength of the play community, as it is true with all our games, relies on you. We make games, but you, the player, make them great.

Also, if there is an event, small or large, that you would like to tell us about please feel free to send me an email at organizedplay@fantasyflightgames.com. To provide you with the best support we can, we are going to rely on you to give us a heads up on tournaments and events happening in your area so we can provide you with a very clear global picture of your favorite games’ play opportunities where ever you are.

Additionally, there was, for the winner of the Castle Stahleck Championship, an opportunity to design a card with our design team for a future set of A Game of Thrones. This has been a very exciting prize for our GenCon champions, and we're glad to now bring it to our European community.

We will be keeping a going rotation of quarterly league kits. Keep up with your favorite LCGs Support page for league kit updates. Other exciting projects are in the works. Expect the next rotation of league kits will be ready to head out Early January 2011. This will be an exciting year, so gather your friends and grab your decks!
